Moving in Wetherby: what to know first

Flats above the shops on the High Street and around the Market Place are reached by a single staircase, and there is little room to stop outside. Thursday is market day, when the stalls fill the Market Place around the Town Hall, which removes the obvious place to stand a van for anything central. The Market Place carries the A661 with a 7.5 tonne limit, well above the Transit, and the Horsefair end is one-way.

There are car parks in the centre, but the van is about 2.5m tall and cannot use any with a 2.1m height barrier. Away from the centre it is simpler. Hallfield, east of the centre, is mostly two and three-bedroom semis and terraces off Hallfield Lane, which is busy with Wetherby High School traffic at the start and end of the school day. Ainsty, Barleyfields and Deighton Bar to the north, Micklethwaite to the south and Spofforth Hill and Linton Park View to the west are houses with drives or kerbside space.

Wetherby is 22 miles from Bradford, either up the A658 to Pool-in-Wharfedale and across through Harewood and Collingham, or round the Leeds ring road and out on the A58, 40 to 55 minutes. The A1(M) serves the town at junctions 45 and 46, which helps any move heading north or south.

There are pay and display car parks in the centre, but check the current charges and any height barrier before the day. On-street stopping in the centre is limited, and Thursday market day removes the Market Place entirely. The van is about 2.5m tall, so a car park with a 2.1m barrier is out.
