Every appliance has rules. A fridge or freezer is best moved without being laid flat, then left to settle before switching on. The load space is 1.7m high, so send the appliance's height or model number with your photos when you ask for a price. Washing machines need their drum secured or transit bolts fitted. Range cookers are very heavy and need a proper trolley, not a strong back. The driver brings an appliance trolley, straps and blankets for the job.

Collection can be from any retailer, a private seller or your old house. Delivery is into the kitchen or utility room and, where access allows, into the gap it's going to live in.

What we move, and what happens to the old one

If you're replacing an appliance, the old one usually needs shifting too. Once it has been disconnected (unplugged, water off at the valve, and any gas or hard-wired connection undone by a qualified engineer), we'll move it wherever you want it: another room, the garage or outside for the retailer to collect. We don't take old items away, so nothing goes back in the van. For getting rid of it, ask the shop selling you the new one about taking the old one back, or book a licensed waste carrier. Bradford Council's bulky waste collection lists furniture, mattresses and sofas but not fridges, freezers or other appliances, so check with the council before relying on it.

Do you connect washing machines and cookers?

Connections aren't part of the job. We bring the appliance in and position it where access allows; plumbing in a washer is one for you or a plumber, and a gas or hard-wired cooker needs a Gas Safe engineer or an electrician. Have the old one disconnected before we arrive so the swap runs to time.

Can a fridge freezer be transported lying down?

Ideally not. Lying down lets oil from the compressor run into the cooling pipes, which is why a fridge freezer is best moved standing. The van's load space is 1.7m high, so send the height or model with your photos when you ask for a price.

How long should a fridge freezer stand before switching it on?

A few hours if it stayed standing on the journey; Hotpoint, for example, says at least two. If it spent time on its side the wait is much longer, at least eight hours or overnight by Hotpoint's guidance. Will you take my old washing machine away?

No, we don't take old items away. We'll bring the new machine in and position it, and we can move the old one to another room, the garage or outside for the retailer's collection, but nothing leaves with the van. For getting rid of it, ask the retailer selling you the new one about taking the old one back, or book a licensed waste carrier.
