The Browgate climb and a barrow run over high kerbs
A loaded van on a gradient behaves differently, and that matters more with white goods than with anything else you can put in the back. A washing machine is 70-odd kilos of concrete ballast in a smooth box with nothing to grip, so it gets strapped to the van wall for the climb up Baildon Road instead of being wedged between softer things. Coming back down off Northgate with a second appliance aboard, that strap is the only thing stopping it taking a run at the bulkhead.
In the village itself, around Towngate, Manor Fold and Hallcliffe, there is no off-street parking and very little turning room, so the honest plan is to stop on the nearest wider street and barrow the machine in. High kerbs are the awkward part, because a loaded appliance trolley has to come up and over one and that is the moment things get dropped. Down at Charlestown and Woodbottom the mill terraces and conversions add their own staircases.
What Baildon appliance delivery & removal usually involves
- Otley Road passes under the railway viaduct arches at Woodbottom, so we check headroom before routing a high van that way
- Moor-edge lanes off Northgate and West Lane are narrow, walled and short on turning space, so we reverse in rather than try to swing round with a load on
- The Ian Clough Hall car park is the usual place to sit the van for a village-centre delivery
- We move, carry and position the appliance, and we can put a washing machine's cold feed and waste hose back on where the fittings are standard. Electrics are for an electrician and gas is Gas Safe work only
- Say so when you book and the old unit leaves with us for a household waste recycling centre. Otherwise it can go to the garage, the cellar or another room in the house
Where in Baildon we work
- Baildon Village and Towngatenarrow, tightly parked streets where the last stretch is done on a trolley

- Hoyle Court and Ferniehirstinter-war and post-war semis, the easiest appliance access in Baildon
- Tong Parkvalley-bottom housing where the van normally gets close to the door
- Acorn Park Industrial Estate, Charlestowntrade collections with room to back up to a unit
- Baildon Business Park, Otley Roadsupplier pick-ups that avoid taking a loaded van up into the village
If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Baildon and the surrounding BD17 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.

What it costs
Baildon appliance work is priced on the time it takes, and the barrow run from wherever the van can legally stop is usually what decides that. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Baildon from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: appliance delivery & removal in Baildon
Can you get a fridge freezer up to a flat in one of the Charlestown conversions?
Usually. Mill conversions tend to have solid, generous staircases, but the turns are often the original ones. Give us the height and depth of the fridge and a photo of the stair from the bottom, and we will confirm before the day rather than find out with it halfway up.
Do you charge extra for coming up the hill?
No. Baildon is five miles from Bradford and inside our normal working area, so there is no travel surcharge for the climb or the mileage. The gradient affects how long the job takes, not what the trip costs you.
Does the freezer need defrosting before you come?
Yes, at least a day before, with the door propped open and towels down. A freezer that is still icy leaks into the van and over everything else in it. Empty the shelves and tape the doors shut, and the rest we handle.
