Up Browgate, then a barrow run off Northgate
Almost nothing large is bought in the village itself - Towngate and Westgate are small shops - so most items come up from the flat ground below. Acorn Park Industrial Estate at Charlestown, Butterfield Industrial Estate, Tong Park and Baildon Business Park on Otley Road all load easily and sit within a couple of miles of any village address. One thing worth settling before we set off: Otley Road passes under the railway viaduct arches at Woodbottom, so headroom decides the route.
Up in the core, Towngate, Manor Fold and Hallcliffe are a knot of narrow, tightly parked streets with awkward turning circles and no off-street parking, and the converted weavers' cottages behind them have exactly the staircases you would expect. Terraces off Northgate and Browgate have high kerbs and cars both sides, so the honest answer is usually a barrow run from the nearest legal stop rather than a van on your doorstep.
What Baildon furniture & large item transport usually involves
- Two small car parks serve the village centre, the larger at the Ian Clough Hall, which is where we work from when Towngate itself is solid
- The Browgate and Baildon Road climb is slow with a full load and slower again in wet or icy weather, so we build the time in rather than promising a tight window
- Moor-edge lanes off Northgate and West Lane are narrow, walled and short on turning space, so we plan the way out before we commit the van to going up
- Downsizing off a big moor-edge house into a village apartment usually means two or three pieces rather than a whole house, and that is exactly the job this van is for
- We can shift the old wardrobe to another room, a garage or a relative's address, or carry it out and take it away with us on the same visit

What it costs
The price on a Baildon job comes from the size of the item, the carry at the village end and the time it takes, not from the distance out of Bradford. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Baildon from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: furniture & large item transport in Baildon
Can you get a van up to a house on Towngate?
We can get close, but not always to the door. The village core has narrow streets, awkward turning and no off-street parking, so we find the nearest legal stop - often the Ian Clough Hall car park - and bring the item in on the trolley with blankets on it.
Is the climb up Browgate a problem with a loaded van?
It is slow rather than a problem. A Transit LWB with a wardrobe and a bed frame aboard takes that climb steadily, and in ice or heavy rain more steadily still. We allow for it when we quote the time rather than turning up late.
Can you collect from the industrial estates at Charlestown or Tong Park?
Yes, those are regular pickups for us. Give us the unit, the order or reference number and the collection window, and we will load there and take it straight up into the village. It is only a couple of miles, so same-day is often possible.
