Down Browgate first, motorway later

The climb from Baildon Bridge up into the village is steep enough to notice in a car. In a long wheelbase van carrying a household it is slow in both directions, and going out fully loaded it wants doing gently. After that comes the A650 Canal Road into Bradford before there is any motorway, so a run to Birmingham or the south coast has a good half hour of local road in front of it. Routed by Otley Road, the viaduct arches at Woodbottom get a headroom check first.

None of that is a problem once the day is planned around it. A collection starts early, everything goes on with blankets and straps because it is about to do motorway miles, and then the load stays exactly where it is until the far end. The one thing worth settling in advance is size. A Charlestown or Woodbottom terrace fits comfortably. A big moor-edge stone house off Northgate with a full garage will not go in one trip, and two hundred miles away is the wrong place to discover it.
