Will a king-size bed go up a Baildon cottage staircase?
In older stone cottages the stairs are often steep with a small landing, and that is where a solid divan base or a one-piece headboard gets stuck. A split base goes up in two halves, and a mattress goes round a turn on its side, never folded. If you are still choosing, let the stairs decide the bed: measure the width and the headroom at the turn before ordering.
Sofas come in on their end with the feet off, turned through the frame. The depth of the sofa and the diagonal of the door matter more than the length, and sectional or modular sofas suit Baildon's older houses far better than one-piece corner units. A bed you already own is dismantled and rebuilt in the new room; a new bed in boxes is delivered ready for you or a fitter.
Measuring for a sofa or bed in a Baildon home
- Measure the front door, inner doors and the stairs at their narrowest point
- In a Towngate or Westgate cottage, choose a split base if the bedroom is up a turning stair
- Sofas travel wrapped and strapped to the van side
- Bought second-hand? The sofa is checked against the listing before loading
- For a Northgate terrace, mention the step up from the pavement, as a three-seater has to be lifted over it on its end

Sofa & Bed Delivery in Baildon: your questions
What if the sofa does not go through the door?
Feet off and on its end first. If it still will not go, another room, a garage or a different address are the options.
Do you build new beds?
No. New beds in boxes are left for you or a fitter. A bed you already own is taken apart and put back up.
Can a sofa go up to a first-floor flat in the village?
If the stairs or the lift allow it. Send the stair width and any lift dimensions, and it is checked before the day.
Can you collect a sofa I bought on Marketplace and bring it to Baildon?
Yes. The driver checks it against the listing and brings it up to the village wrapped and strapped.
Will you take the old sofa away?
No. Old sofas stay with you; the council's bulky waste service or the retailer's take-back is the route for getting rid of one.
