Folds off Kirkgate, market days and the Chevin climb

The old core around Kirkgate, Bondgate and Boroughgate is gritstone terraces packed into yards and folds, narrow frontages with no rear access at all. Everything goes in through the front, and in a fold the tightest point is often the entry passage rather than the door itself, so that is what we measure. South of the river the ground goes up fast.
