Market days, the Chevin, and when we can actually load
Three days a week the town centre is not really available to us. The market runs Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, and on the Friday and Saturday it spreads from Market Place up Kirkgate as far as the parish church, taking the kerb space with it. If your seller lives in the old core around Kirkgate, Bondgate or Boroughgate, a Wednesday or Thursday morning slot is worth more than a fast reply to the listing.
The other half of town is up the Chevin, and that changes the approach rather than the price. East Chevin Road climbs roughly 167 metres in a little over two kilometres with nowhere to turn, so a loaded van goes round and comes at those addresses from the top. Anything north of the Wharfe at Newall means Otley Bridge, a narrow medieval crossing that is the only sensible way over.
What Otley marketplace & ebay collection usually involves
- 12 miles from Bradford: A650 to Shipley, then the A6038 over Hollins Hill through Guiseley, so a Guiseley or Menston seller can be picked up on the same trip
- Market days take Market Place and lower Kirkgate out of use, so town-centre collections get booked around them
- Old-core terraces on Kirkgate and Bondgate have narrow frontages and no rear access, so a wardrobe often has to come out in pieces
- If the item needs taking apart at the seller's end we can do that with their agreement, but tell us when you book so the slot is long enough
- Send the agreed cash with us and we hand it to the seller on collection once the item has been checked, or settle with them yourself in advance
Where in Otley we work

- Garnett Wharfenewer riverside housing on old mill and printing-works land, with a lot of near-new furniture moving on
- Weston and Cambridge estatesinterwar and post-war semis with drives, the simplest collections in the town
- West Chevinthe big stone houses people downsize out of, approached from the top of the hill
- Newallover Otley Bridge and north of the Wharfe, so the crossing dictates the timing
- Wharfebank Millsriverside business park, where the occasional office desk or chair set comes from
If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Otley and the surrounding LS21 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.

What it costs
What drives the price in Otley is the day of the week, how far the item has to be carried to where the van can stand, and whether it needs taking apart first. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Otley from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: marketplace & ebay collection in Otley
Can you collect from the town centre on a market day?
It is awkward rather than impossible. On Tuesday, Friday and Saturday the stalls take Market Place and lower Kirkgate, so we park where we can and carry. If the seller is flexible, a Wednesday or Thursday morning makes the job quicker and cheaper for you.
The seller is only free after work. Can you still go?
Yes. We run seven days a week until eight in the evening, and evening collections in Otley are routine because so many sellers commute down the A660 to Leeds. Give us the window the seller offers and we will work the rest of the run around it.
Can you get a wardrobe out of a Kirkgate terrace?
Often only in pieces. Those frontages are narrow, the staircases turn, and there is no back door to try instead. Send a photo of the wardrobe and the stairs and we will tell you before the day whether it comes out whole, comes out dismantled, or does not come out at all.
