Moving in Otley: what to know first
The old centre is hard work for anything long. Kirkgate, Bondgate and Boroughgate are narrow and parked on both sides, and the yards and folds behind them have narrow frontages and often no rear access, so furniture comes out through the front. North of the river, Newall, the Weston estate and Prince Henry's Grammar School on Farnley Lane are reached from the centre over Otley Bridge, first built in the thirteenth century, widened to seven arches in the 1770s and now a scheduled monument. Newer riverside housing such as Garnett Wharfe, built on the old Garnett paper mill site, usually has room for a van close to the door.
