Huby: what to know before moving day
Most homes in Huby sit on short residential roads off the A658 and Strait Lane: Almscliffe Drive, Crag View, Holly Park, The Pines, Grosvenor Gardens and Kingsway. Huby Methodist Chapel, founded in 1889, stands on the corner of Strait Lane, and Almscliffe Hall on Harrogate Road is home to the tennis and bowls clubs and the Weeton and Huby Players. Almscliffe Crag, a Millstone Grit outcrop used by climbers, is about a mile north-west of the village.
The station is in Huby itself, on the Harrogate Line about 11.5 miles north of Leeds. In the daytime there is generally a train every half hour to Leeds and one to Harrogate, Knaresborough and York. It is unstaffed, and neither platform is step-free: the Leeds side has steps and the Harrogate side a steep path. The Weeton Show, held since 1946, is also a Huby event.
How the van gets to Huby
The A658 is Huby's road. It begins in Bradford city centre, passes Leeds Bradford Airport and runs through Pool-in-Wharfedale before climbing into Huby as Harrogate Road, where the limit drops to 30 mph. Crag Lane and Strait Lane turn off it into the village, Woodgate Lane runs south-east towards Weeton, and Castley Lane heads west.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 30 to 45 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
