Market days, the Chevin and the run down the A660
The market takes Market Place and the lower end of Kirkgate on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and on Friday and Saturday the stalls run all the way up Kirkgate to the parish church. That is exactly where the old yards and folds sit, so a September move out of a Kirkgate or Bondgate terrace either happens on a different day or happens early, before the stalls go up. Those houses have narrow frontages and no rear access.
Higher up, the Chevin side is a different problem again. East Chevin Road climbs roughly 167 metres in a little over two kilometres with no turning space, so a loaded long-wheelbase van has no business on it and we come at those addresses from the top instead. Anything north of the Wharfe means crossing the narrow seven-span bridge, which queues, so we build that into the timing rather than finding it out on the day.

No. Prince Henry's Grammar School is the town's secondary and there is no campus or halls here. Nearly every student job we do in Otley is a move away, most often down the A660 to Leeds, plus the reverse trip when term ends and moves between house shares mid-year.
Can you work around the market?
Yes. Tuesday, Friday and Saturday take Market Place and lower Kirkgate, so for a town-centre address we either pick a different day or start early enough to be loaded before the stalls go up. Tell us the address when you book and we will say which it needs to be.
Our house is up on the Chevin. Can the van reach the door?
Usually, but not by the obvious route. East Chevin Road is far too steep and narrow to take a loaded long-wheelbase van up, with nowhere to turn at the top, so we come round and approach from above. It adds a few minutes to the drive and saves a lot of trouble.
