Stepped front doors, a hill, and the September run out
Terraces and back-to-backs off High Street and Henshaw Lane have stepped front entrances and no rear access, so a term's worth of belongings is carried out of one door, down the steps and along to a van standing on a gradient. The hilltop core, High Street, Kirk Lane and Ivegate, is narrow and parked both sides, which means a short stop and a carry rather than a proper loading position outside the door.
Once loaded, the ways out are the A658 Harrogate Road through Rawdon and Apperley Bridge, or the A6038 through Guiseley onto the A65 New Road Side. Both of those jam around the airport and the Rawdon junctions at school and shift-change times, so we aim to be loaded and moving before they clog. Bradford is nine miles back down the A658 and Leeds is about half an hour the other way.
