Where the van stops on a hill, and how far the piece walks

Buying nearby means the High Street and Ivegate shops, Westside Retail Park over on the Guiseley boundary, or a trade collection from the Leeds Bradford Airport Industrial Estate on Harrogate Road, a single 1.3 million square foot depot carved into units. Loading at any of those is simple. The awkward end is the hilltop core, where High Street, Ivegate and Kirk Lane are narrow, steep and parked both sides with next to nowhere to stand a long van.

So we work off a short stop rather than a proper loading position, and the length of the carry becomes the job. That matters more for an assembled three-seater than for boxed flat-pack, which is worth thinking about before you buy. Larkfield, Rufford Park and the bungalows out towards Rawdon are a different proposition entirely: drives, level paths and halls you can turn a wardrobe in.

Honestly, probably not for long. The hilltop streets are narrow, steep and parked nose to tail with very little space to wait, so we work off a short stop as close as we can get and bring the item in on the trolley. Tell us the number and we will know where to aim for.

Flat-pack or assembled - which is easier to get in here?

Flat-pack, on the terraced streets. Boxes go up a stepped entrance and a turning staircase one at a time, while an assembled three-seater has to go in whole or not at all. Out on the semis at Larkfield or Rufford Park it makes almost no difference, because the hall and the door are wider.

Will you take the old sofa away at the same time?

Yes, if you want it gone. It goes out to the van as the new one comes in, which keeps a stepped Yeadon doorway blocked once rather than twice. We can also drop it with a friend or a charity shop instead. We are not a rubbish-removal service and do not clear whole properties.
