The June run home, and the weeks the Showground takes over
The end-of-year date most families get caught by is not the tenancy date, it is whatever the Showground has booked that week. Great Yorkshire Showground events gridlock Wetherby Road, and a Convention Centre show does much the same to Ripon Road and the approaches around the Stray. If your run home lands on one of those days we start early or work into the evening, because a loaded van sitting in event traffic helps nobody.
Where you are loading from matters more than the mileage. A semi in Bilton or Jennyfields has a drive and a straight run to the van. A converted villa flat on the Duchy Estate or at Harlow Hill has a gravel drive, a shared Victorian staircase with a half-landing turn and no lift, which is a different job entirely once a mattress and a bike are involved. Tell us which one you are starting from and we bring the trolley to suit.
What Harrogate student removals usually involves
- Central flats around Montpellier and Royal Parade sit on narrow, one-way conservation-area streets, so we agree a stopping point before the day rather than hoping for one
- The Jubilee and Victoria multi-storeys have height barriers a Transit LWB will not clear, so a central job is loaded off the street
- Pay-and-display and resident permit bays cover most central streets, and an early start is usually simpler than chasing a suspended bay
- Roads around the Stray have no parking on the common side, which halves the usable kerb on the whole perimeter
- A single room's worth is a normal booking here, and the A658 down through Pool-in-Wharfedale to Bradford carries no travel surcharge either way
Where in Harrogate we work
- Duchy Estate and Harlow Hillbig villas split into flats: shared Victorian stairs, a half-landing turn and no lift
- Bilton, Jennyfields and Starbeckinter-war and post-war semis with drives, the easiest September loading in town
- Pannal and Hornbeam Parknewer family estates, and the further education college people mistake for a campus
- Oatlandsperiod houses near the Stray, where the common side of the road takes half the kerb
- Harrogate Convention Centreevent weeks that lock up Ripon Road, worth dodging when you pick a date
- Great Yorkshire Showground, Wetherby Roadthe other date to work around when the summer run home comes up
If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Harrogate and the surrounding HG1-HG3 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.
Common Harrogate runs
- Harrogate → Leedshouse shares and second-year moves, usually one load and back the same day
- Harrogate → Bradfordthe A658 through Huby, Pool-in-Wharfedale and Yeadon, 35 to 50 minutes
- Harrogate → York or Newcastlethe longer September runs, booked ahead so we can start at first light
What it costs
The price on a Harrogate student move follows the size of the load and the time the job takes, and nothing is added for the run up from Bradford. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Harrogate from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: student removals in Harrogate
Is there a university in Harrogate?
No. Harrogate College at Hornbeam Park is a further education college and it is not residential, so there are no halls in the town. Almost all our Harrogate student work goes the other way: taking someone out to Leeds, York, Manchester or further in September, and fetching them home in June.
Can you get a bed and a bike down from a flat on the Duchy Estate?
Usually, yes. Those converted villas have wide original staircases but a half-landing turn and no lift, so the order matters. Bike and boxes first, mattress on its side, bed frame apart if the turn is tight. Send a photo of the stairs and we will tell you before the day.
We were going to do it in two car loads. Is a van actually worth it?
Two runs to Leeds and back is most of a day once you count the A658 at one end and the ring road at the other, and a bike, a desk chair and a mattress still will not go in a car. One Transit LWB takes the lot in a single trip, with a driver who carries and a second pair of hands if you want it.
