Converted villas, shared staircases and the downsizing move
The grand houses on the Duchy Estate, at Harlow Hill and around Oatlands were built for families with staff, and a lot of them are now flats and maisonettes. That means a long gravel drive the van sinks into, a communal front door, a Victorian staircase with a half-landing turn, and no lift at any point. A wardrobe that went up those stairs a century ago does not always come back down in one piece.
Downsizing also changes what the van is for. You are usually moving a fraction of the contents and deciding the rest on the day, so we work to the room list rather than clearing everything in front of us. To be straight about it, we move things — to the new address, or to a relative's garage if that is where they are going. Anything you have finished with can go out with us on the day if you say so at booking, though we do not clear whole houses.
What Harrogate house removals usually involves
- Central streets around Montpellier and Royal Parade are narrow, one-way and conservation-controlled, with almost nowhere legal to sit a long-wheelbase van for an hour
- The Stray hems the town centre in, so approaches run on a handful of perimeter roads and there is no parking on the Stray side of any of them
- The multi-storey car parks at Jubilee and Victoria have height barriers a Transit LWB will not clear, so we work from the kerb or a suspended bay
- Converted villa flats on the Duchy Estate and Harlow Hill have shared staircases and no lift, so tell us the floor and we will plan the load order around it
- Book around the Convention Centre and Great Yorkshire Showground calendar, because Wetherby Road and Ripon Road gridlock during events

- Harrogate → Bradfordabout nineteen miles on the A658 past Leeds Bradford Airport, 35 to 50 minutes with a load

What it costs
What drives a Harrogate house move is the time it takes — the staircase, the floor you are on and how far the van has to sit from the door — rather than the miles from Bradford. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Harrogate from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: house removals in Harrogate
Do you charge more to come out to Harrogate from Bradford?
No. Harrogate is inside the area we cover, roughly nineteen miles up the A658 past the airport, and the price is worked out on the time the job takes and the size of the load. There is no travel surcharge and no mileage line on the quote.
Can you get a three-seater down a converted villa staircase?
Often yes, but the half-landing turn decides it. Send a photo looking up the stairs from the bottom and one of the communal front door, and we will tell you before the day whether it comes down on its end, needs the feet off, or genuinely will not come down that way.
Will you take the old furniture away once you have moved me in?
Yes, within reason. A lot of the work here is downsizing, so an old sofa, bed or appliance can go out with us on the same visit if you tell us at booking, appliances to a household waste recycling centre. What we do not do is clear a whole house, garage or garden.
