House Removals in Knaresborough

The old centre is stacked on a cliff above the Nidd, and the cottages nearest the view are the hardest to empty: cobbles, steps, and a van that often cannot get closer than the top of the hill. Out on Aspin and Eastfield it is a completely different job. We plan for whichever you have.

Carrying up from Waterside and out of the gorge

Kirkgate, Waterside and the cobbled Water Bag Bank drop steeply towards the river, and the riverside and castle-side cottages have no off-street access at all. A long carry up a flight of stone steps from the nearest legal stopping point is routine here rather than unusual, so we bring the trolley, work in a sensible order and use the tailgate as the staging point instead of piling everything on the pavement while the van waits.

The two crossings of the Nidd are High Bridge and Low Bridge, both narrow with blind approaches, so if one is shut the town's traffic funnels through the other and a timed move can slip. Plenty of the local work is families outgrowing a cramped gorge-side cottage and moving up to Aspin, Eastfield or Scriven, which is the easy half of the day: driveways, turning space and a van that reaches the door.

What Knaresborough house removals usually involves

  • Market Place is given over to the market every Wednesday from half past seven until three, which removes the only realistic loading space for a town-centre property
  • The historic streets are double-yellowed with very limited waiting, so central jobs work as an early loading window or a shuttle from the Conyngham Hall or Chapel Street car parks
  • Market Place gives a free first hour but the spaces are gone by mid-morning, so we never plan a move around finding one
  • Georgian and Victorian cottages around the Market Place and the castle have narrow doorways and tight stair turns, and a photo of both tells us what needs legs off
  • Away from the cliff edge the semis at Stockwell and the newer housing at Grimbald Crag have drives and turning room, so the van reaches the door

Where in Knaresborough we work

  • Watersideriverside cottages with no vehicle access and a stone-step carry up out of the gorge
  • Kirkgateterraces stepping down from the Market Place, narrow, sloped and partly setted
  • Aspin1960s to 80s family estates, the usual destination when a gorge-side cottage runs out of room
  • Eastfield and Stockwellsemis set back off the road with drives and a level path to the door, the quick half of the town
  • Scriven and Grimbald Cragnewer executive housing with turning space and room for the van at the door
  • High Bond Endolder stone housing near the top of the hill, where the van tends to stop and the trolley starts

If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Knaresborough and the surrounding HG5 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.

Common Knaresborough runs

  • Knaresborough to Bradfordtwenty-two miles on the A658 through Apperley Bridge, Yeadon and Pool-in-Wharfedale
  • Waterside to Aspinbarely a mile, but the whole job is in the carry up out of the gorge
  • Knaresborough to Harrogateminutes along the southern bypass, a regular trade between the two towns

What it costs

Knaresborough prices come down to access, so a house with a drive out at Scriven is a quicker job than a gorge-side cottage with a long flight of steps between it and the van. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Knaresborough from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.

Frequently asked questions: house removals in Knaresborough

Can your van get down to a house on Waterside?

Usually not to the door. Waterside and the cobbled bank above it are steep, narrow and partly setted, and a Transit with a three and a half metre load often stops at the top of the hill. We plan the carry properly, bring the trolley and quote knowing the steps are there, not as an extra afterwards.

Is Wednesday a bad day to move in Knaresborough?

For a town-centre property, yes. The market takes Market Place from half past seven in the morning until three, and that is the only sensible loading space. If you are stuck with a Wednesday we start very early or shuttle from Conyngham Hall. Out on Aspin or Scriven it makes no difference at all.

Do you charge more for coming into North Yorkshire?

No. Knaresborough is about twenty-two miles from Bradford on the A658, inside the area we cover, and there is no travel surcharge. The price comes from the size of the load and how long the job takes, including the carry at the gorge end, and it is agreed before we start.
