A cliff, two bridges and a market on Wednesdays
The historic core is tightly stacked gritstone around the Market Place and the castle, with terraces stepping down Kirkgate and Waterside toward the gorge. Those streets are steep, narrow and partly setted, and the cobbled Water Bag Bank is not somewhere a long wheelbase van belongs at all. On a riverside or castle-side flat, the realistic plan is a stopping point at the top of the hill and a carry down flights of stone steps.
Away from the cliff edge it eases considerably. Stockwell, Eastfield and the Aspin estates are inter-war and post-war semis with drives and space to turn, and the newer housing at Grimbald Crag and Scriven is easier still. That contrast is why so much local work is one job with two completely different halves: a shuttle carry out of the old town and a straightforward unload at the other end.
What Knaresborough flat & apartment removals usually involves
- Market Place is taken over by the market every Wednesday from half seven in the morning until three, which removes the only realistic loading space for a town-centre flat
- High Bridge and Low Bridge are the only two crossings of the Nidd in town, both narrow with blind approaches, so if one is shut the whole job reroutes
- The historic streets are double-yellowed with very limited waiting, so centre flats mean an early loading window or a shuttle from the Conyngham Hall or Chapel Street car parks
- Market Place gives a free first hour but the spaces are gone by mid-morning, which is another reason we start early on a town-centre job
- Nothing in the gorge-side stock has a lift, so tell us the floor and how many steps there are from the street and we will bring the right kit and the right amount of time
Where in Knaresborough we work
- Market Placeflats above the shops, and the only sensible loading spot in the old town except on Wednesdays
- Kirkgateterraces stepping down toward the gorge, narrow and partly setted, usually a carry from the top
- Watersideriverside cottages with no off-street access at all and long flights of stone steps
- High Streetupper-floor flats over the shopfronts, one staircase, limited waiting outside
- Aspin and Eastfield1960s to 80s family estates with drives, where old-town flat moves commonly end up
- Bond End and Stockwellsemis and converted houses on wider roads, far easier for a long van to work from
If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Knaresborough and the surrounding HG5 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.

What it costs
What decides the cost here is the carry from the nearest legal stopping point and the flights of steps at each end, never the mileage from Bradford. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Knaresborough from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: flat & apartment removals in Knaresborough
Can the van park outside a Waterside or Kirkgate flat?
Usually not. Those streets are steep, narrow, partly setted and double-yellowed, so we find the nearest legal stopping point at the top and carry down. It adds time rather than difficulty, and telling us about the steps when you book means the quote reflects the real job.
Should I avoid Wednesdays?
If your flat is on or near the Market Place, yes. The market runs from early morning until mid-afternoon and takes the only workable loading space with it. Any other day is straightforward, and if Wednesday is the only day you have, we will start before the stalls go up.
Do you cover Knaresborough from Bradford without a surcharge?
Yes. It is a little over twenty miles on the A658 and you pay the same as anyone nearer to us. The price is set on the size of the load, the floor you are on and how long the job realistically takes, and it is agreed before we start.
