Timble: what to know before moving day
Timble's older houses are gritstone with stone slate roofs. The parish has seven listed buildings, all Grade II, among them Snowden View and Low House, dated 1683, Plumtree Farmhouse, two cottages made into one house and dated 1778, and the Timble Inn, an 18th-century house that became the village pub. With a house of that age, measure the front door and the turn of the stairs before booking anything large, and send the measurements with your photos.
The Washburn Valley's reservoirs were built to supply water to Leeds. Swinsty Reservoir, finished in 1878 by Leeds Corporation Waterworks, sits below Fewston Reservoir and directly adjoins it, and the Yorkshire Water Way passes through Timble. East of the village, the separate parish of Little Timble takes in Swinsty Hall, a Grade I listed house, and the western side of Swinsty Reservoir.
Timble was in the West Riding until 1974 and in the Borough of Harrogate from 1974 to 2023. It is now run by North Yorkshire Council, so bins and council tax here go through North Yorkshire, not Leeds or Bradford.
How the van gets to Timble
From Otley the way up is through Newall. Newall Carr Road heads north out of the town, Weston Moor Road carries on to a crossroads on Askwith Moor, and Askwith Moor Road runs north from there into Timble. In the village the lanes are North Lane and Back North Lane, with Sourby Lane, Rues Lane and Timble Ridge Road leading out. These are rural lanes under the national speed limit, not town streets, so give the full address and postcode and a note of where a long van can stop.

No. The Washburn Valley lies next to the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is not part of it: it is in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The council for Timble is North Yorkshire Council.
Is Timble the same place as Little Timble?
No. Timble is the village in the parish of Great Timble. Little Timble is a separate parish to the east, with an estimated population of about 10, taking in Swinsty Hall and the west side of Swinsty Reservoir. Give the full address and postcode so the van goes to the right place.
