Tockwith: what to know before moving day
The centre has been a conservation area since 1994. The two pubs, the Boot and Shoe and the Spotted Ox, are in the heart of the village, with the post office, a Budgens, a branch of the Springbank Surgery, the village hall and the Church of the Epiphany, a Grade II listed church of 1866. Kirk Lane, Marston Road and Westfield Road are the main streets through it.
The airfield on the western edge opened in 1941 as RAF Marston Moor. Some of its buildings are now a business park, and housing has spread over the eastern side and the main section of one runway. On the map the closes out that way include Prince Rupert Drive, Fairfax Crescent, Lucas Grove, Kendal Lane and Bunting Drive, with more under construction at Regency Place and Leven Gardens. Streets that new are not always on every satnav, so send the postcode and a landmark with the booking.
In 1945 a Stirling bomber crashed in the main street, destroying nineteen houses, and a memorial went up for the 70th anniversary in 2015. The Battle of Marston Moor was fought in 1644 on the land between Tockwith and Long Marston, marked by a stone monument on the road between the two.
How the van gets to Tockwith
From Wetherby the van comes out past Cowthorpe on the minor road that links the A168 with Tockwith, arriving from the west along Fleet Lane, with the church in view across flat farmland. The B1224 runs to the south of the old airfield, and Marston Road leaves the village towards Long Marston.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 50 to 65 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Why is the airfield near Tockwith called Marston Moor?
The station was meant to be called RAF Tockwith but was named Marston Moor to avoid confusion with RAF Topcliffe. The runways are now used for driver training, and part of the site is homes and a business park.
Tockwith has a York postcode. Does the van come via York?
No. The postcode is YO26, but the village is only about 4 miles from Wetherby and the van comes through Wetherby to reach it. The council is North Yorkshire Council, which took over from Harrogate borough in 2023.
