Minutes to the A1(M), once you're out of the Shambles
The centre runs as a tight one-way loop around the Town Hall and the Shambles, and Wetherby Bridge over the Wharfe is a narrow scheduled ancient monument. A long wheelbase van has to commit to the full circuit rather than nip back round, and on Thursdays the market takes the Market Place from nine until three and the obvious loading point with it. A flat over the High Street is best emptied early on any other day.
Out on the newer estates the catch is different. Micklethwaite, Sandbeck and Spofforth Hill have narrow curved feeder roads, parking both sides and very tight turning heads, so the turn gets looked at before the van commits to it. Reversing a loaded LWB back out of a close is not how a four-hundred-mile day should open. After that it is the slip road, and one vehicle all the way to the other end.
What Wetherby long distance & nationwide usually involves
- The only usable A1(M) exits here are junctions 45 and 46; overshoot one with a full load and it is several miles before you can turn round, so the way out is set before we leave
- Thursday market removes the Market Place entirely between nine and three, so long-run collections from central flats are booked for another morning
- Most town-centre car parks give two hours free between 8am and 6pm, with Crossley Street the handiest for the High Street, though charges came in at Station Gardens and The Wilderness in late 2025
- A move west, to Manchester, Wales or the South West, goes back across through Leeds on the ring road rather than down the A1(M), and we say so when we quote the driving time
- The van holds 3.4m by 1.3m by 1.7m, comfortably a flat or a small house; a downsizing load out of a big village house gets the room-by-room list treatment first
Where in Wetherby we work
- High Street and the Shamblesflats over the shops inside the one-way loop, where early loading is the only sensible plan
- Micklethwaite and Sandbeckmodern estates with drives, but tight turning heads to work out beforehand
- Spofforth Hillnewer executive housing, usually a job relocation and usually more than one load
- Hallfield and Ainstypost-war semis and terraces, the classic small-house load that goes in one trip
- Deighton Barclose to the bypass, so the van is on the A1(M) within minutes of closing the doors
- Thorp Arch Trading Estatebusiness stock and equipment loaded off a yard rather than a kerb
If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Wetherby and the surrounding LS22 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.
Common Wetherby runs
- Wetherby → Londonstraight down the A1(M) from junction 45 or 46, the most straightforward long run we do
- Wetherby → Bristol or the South Westwest across country first, which puts time in before the fast miles start
- Bradford → Wetherby → the South Coastthe van comes over on the A658 and A58 through Harewood and Collingham, loads, and goes
What it costs
Distance, the size of the load and whether the run goes straight south on the motorway or west across country first are what set the price, agreed before you book. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Wetherby from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: long distance & nationwide in Wetherby
Wetherby is right by the A1(M). Does that make a long move cheaper?
It helps. There is no slow crawl to reach the network here, which shortens the day at this end, and we price the whole job rather than running a mileage meter. It makes most difference on a southbound run; heading west you still have to get across to the other side of Leeds before anything speeds up.
Can you collect from a flat above a High Street shop?
Yes, and early is the answer. The centre is a one-way loop with limited waiting and short loading bays, so we aim for first thing, and not a Thursday if it can be avoided, because the market takes the Market Place all day. Tell us which floor it is and whether there is a stairwell.
Will a four-bedroom house fit in one van for a move to the south coast?
Honestly, no. A Transit LWB takes a flat or a small house in one trip. A full family home with a loft and a garage needs two runs or a different sort of firm, and a 250-mile job is the wrong place to find that out. Send photos and a room-by-room list and we will tell you before you book.
