Stutton: what to know before moving day
Stutton stayed a hamlet until large amounts of housing were built in the 1960s and 1970s, and today it has about 70 houses, mostly modern, with at least one, Manor House Farm, going back to 1697. The roads are Manor Road, Mill Lane, Moor Lane, Green Lane, Church Crescent, Stutton Road, Chantry Lane and Weedling Gate. The Hare and Hounds is a Samuel Smith's pub, and there is a small village hall; St Aidan's, the old mission church, is now a house.
The old station, designed by George Townsend Andrews, closed to passengers in 1905 and is now a private house, and the road crossing the line there was Weedling Gate. Half a mile west is Jackdaw Crag quarry, source of the pale magnesian limestone used for York Minster. Hazlewood Castle, now a hotel, is in the same parish.
