Angram: what to know before moving day
The name comes from the Old English for grassland, which suits it: the map around Angram is fields, drains and farms, with Angram Grange, Manor Farm and Bradley Grange, Ings Dike and Healaugh Beck, and the wood called Askham Whin. The site of a chapel is marked as an archaeological site.
Angram was a township of the old parish of Long Marston in the West Riding and a civil parish of its own from 1866, with 32 people in 1971. It became part of North Yorkshire in 1974 and was absorbed into Long Marston parish in 1988. It sits about a mile and a half south-east of Hutton Wandesley, Long Marston's other hamlet.
How the van gets to Angram
Angram Road is the way in. It leaves the B1224 at the crossroads in Long Marston and runs south past the village hall, then out at the national speed limit to Angram, where Speng Lane carries on. Sandwith Lane, to the south, links Healaugh with Bilbrough. From Wetherby the B1224 runs east through Bickerton and Bilton to Long Marston.
