Bardsey: what to know before moving day
Church Lane is the historic centre. The tower of All Hallows' Church is thought to date from about 850 to 950, and the church is Grade I listed; the Bingley Arms, a little way along the same lane, claims to be England's oldest pub, though that is disputed. Bardsey also had a motte-and-bailey castle soon after the Norman conquest, and the map shows Castle Hill beside Castle Grove, Castle Close and Castle Fields.
Most housing is private, with council housing near Keswick Lane. Other streets include Woodacre Lane, Woodacre Crescent, Cornmill Lane, Tithe Barn Lane and Smithy Lane, and there is a lane simply called The Ginnel. Bardsey Primary Academy, the village hall and the sports club with its cricket pitch are easy landmarks. Bardsey had a station on the Cross Gates to Wetherby line from 1876 to 1964, so today the move is by road only.
How the van gets to Bardsey
From Bradford the van crosses north Leeds and follows the A58, Wetherby Road, past Scarcroft to Bardsey. Church Lane, Keswick Lane, Rigton Bank and Wike Lane are the roads into the village itself, and Church Lane leads to the Bingley Arms and All Hallows.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 35 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

What does the name Bardsey mean?
Probably the island of a man called something like Beornraed. It was written Berdesei in the Domesday Book. Bardsey is not an island, so the name may describe a hill rising from flat ground.
