Scarcroft: what to know before moving day
The A58, called Wetherby Road here, runs straight through, and the New Inn (dating from 1852) stands on it; if you live on the main road, the van will need a safe place to pull off. The village's shop and post office have closed, so the nearest shops are in Bardsey, Shadwell and Whinmoor, with supermarkets at Seacroft and Wetherby. The name comes from the Old English for a croft in a gap, and a watermill was built here in 1810 to grind corn.
Away from the A58 the houses spread along Ling Lane, Syke Lane and Thorner Lane and closes such as Wayside Crescent, Heather Vale and Woodlands Park. Bracken Park has been named as the most expensive street in Leeds, and Ling Lane often appears in the top ten, so expect some large houses. Tell us if there are gates, a gravel drive or a long carry from where the van can park. Scarcroft Golf Club and the village hall are the other landmarks.
How the van gets to Scarcroft
From Bradford the van crosses north Leeds and takes the A58 out towards Wetherby; Scarcroft is on that road, with Bardsey about a mile further on. Thorner Lane, Ling Lane and Syke Lane are the other roads the van may use.
