Netherby: what to know before moving day
The reach of river beside the village is called Netherby Deep, and a plaque there records two children who drowned at a dangerous bathing place. Wharfe Lane, Kearby Cliff and Spring Lane are the roads through, with Maustin Caravan Park, a bowling club and The Stables restaurant on the map, and a Methodist church up at Kearby. Spring Close Farm, a 17th-century sandstone house built around a timber frame, is one of three listed buildings in the parish.
Kearby, the other half of the parish name, is in the Domesday Book as Cherebi. The parish, which also includes Barrowby and Kearby Town End, had 204 people in 2011. It was a township of Kirkby Overblow until 1866 and moved from the West Riding to North Yorkshire in 1974.
How the van gets to Netherby
The lanes come down to the river from the north. Barrowby Lane runs south from Kirkby Overblow to Kirkby Lane at Kearby, and Spring Lane and Kearby Cliff drop from there to Wharfe Lane. From Wetherby, the way in is through Sicklinghall: its Main Street becomes Kirkby Lane, which leads on by Clap Gate to Kearby.
