Boston Spa: what to know before moving day
Everything hangs off High Street, which is the A659 between Collingham and Tadcaster. Bridge Road leaves it at the centre of the village and runs down to Thorp Arch Bridge, a Grade II listed crossing of the Wharfe. The High Street is lined with Georgian villas and town houses, and the Royal Hotel, built in 1753 to lodge visitors to the spa, now holds flats and shops, including the Costcutter. Doors on a main road need a clear plan for where the van waits, so say which side of the street yours is on.
The council-built housing is mostly around Clifford Moor Road and Wickham Avenue, while the east side of the village is mainly larger houses. When the conservation area was redrawn in 2009 it left out the late-20th-century estates south of the High Street and took in West End, homes put up in the Second World War for workers at the Thorp Arch munitions factory. Primrose Lane, St Mary's and St Edward's primary schools are all in the village, and Boston Spa Academy is just to the south in Clifford.
How the van gets to Boston Spa
From Bradford the van takes the A658 north-east past Leeds Bradford Airport to Pool-in-Wharfedale, then the A659 east through Harewood and Collingham; the same A659 becomes Boston Spa's High Street. The A1(M) runs to the west of the village and junction 45 is the one to use if the job starts or ends on the motorway side. Expect roughly 45 to 55 minutes for the run out from Bradford to the High Street.

Is the British Library actually in Boston Spa?
Its Boston Spa site is on the Thorp Arch Trading Estate, about 1.5 miles north-east of the village on the far side of the river. It is the library's largest store and holds the national newspaper collection. A delivery there is a trading estate address, not a village one.
Is Boston Spa run by Leeds or by Wetherby?
By Leeds City Council, since 1974, for bins and council tax. Before that the parish was in Wetherby Rural District in the West Riding. Boston Spa also has its own parish council for village matters.
