Moving in Woodhall: what to know first
Moving here means one house on an open lane, not a street. The hamlet is a handful of houses and farm buildings with no shop, and Woodhall Lane carries 40 mph traffic past the doors, so the van needs somewhere to stand clear of it, ideally a drive or yard inside the property. Say when you book whether there is one, and whether the path from it to the door is gravel, grass or steps.
The side ways are not for a van. Woodhall Hills Hamlet, the lane off Woodhall Lane, is also a public footpath, New Row beyond it is a track, Priesthorpe Road is a dirt track for access only, and part of Woodhall Road is closed to motor vehicles. If your gate is on one of them, send a photo of it so we can plan the carry from Woodhall Lane.
Woodhall: the local picture
The oldest house is Old Hall Farmhouse, dated 1707, altered in 1839 and later divided; it keeps a plaque with initials and the date over the original doorway and is Grade II listed. Ravenscliffe Farm Barn, a three-bay stone barn of the mid-17th century, stands a short way north-west and is listed too.
Calverley Golf and Country Club's 18-hole course comes right up to the hamlet, and Woodhall Hills Golf Club, founded in 1905, has its clubhouse a short walk away. Woodhall Plantation, a broadleaved wood, lines the lane. The Leeds Country Way also crosses the Woodhall Hills, between Thornbury and Fagley Beck.
How the van gets to Woodhall
Woodhall Lane is the one proper road in, a 40 mph lane running between the two golf courses from the A647 Bradford Road in the south towards Calverley in the north. Give the house name as well as the postcode as there are only a few houses on the lane.
Calverley is the nearest move: Woodhall Lane to Woodhall Road, then down to Town Gate on the A657. Bradford is the other way, south on Woodhall Lane to the A647 Bradford Road, then through Stanningley and along Leeds Road. Leeds also starts on the A647, eastbound over the Stanningley Bypass and Armley Road.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 10 to 25 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Frequently asked questions: man with a van in Woodhall
Is Woodhall anything to do with the Woodhall Retail Centre?
No. The Woodhall Retail Centre is off Leeds Old Road in Thornbury, on the Bradford side of the boundary. This Woodhall is the hamlet on Woodhall Lane between the two golf courses, with LS28 postcodes in the City of Leeds.
We are moving into Old Hall Farmhouse. Anything to plan for?
It is a listed house of 1707 that has been divided, so tell us which part you are in and measure the doorways and stairs before booking large pieces. Taking beds and flat-pack apart is included in the fixed price.
Is the drive up to Woodhall steep?
Yes, from the Calverley side. Woodhall sits high on the Woodhall Hills, well above the centre of Calverley, so the run from the A657 at Town Gate up Woodhall Road is a steady climb.
