Barkerend: what to know before moving day
Barkerend Road is a long main street with listed buildings along it. St Clement's Church, built in 1892 to 1894 in a neo-Gothic style with an octagonal clock turret, is Grade II* listed and known for its Morris and Co ceiling. The Barkerend Road Mosque occupies the former Hippodrome Picturehouse, later the Roxy, and the remaining block of Barkerend Mills, a worsted spinning mill founded in 1815, still stands off Barkerend roundabout.
On Byron Street, the grand former Hanson Grammar School there is now the Byron Halls flats, and Boldshay Hall is on the same street. Olive Secondary School uses the original Byron Primary premises, while Byron Primary has moved to new buildings on Barkerend Road. Burnsall Road, Gilpin Street and Webster Street are among the side streets close by; if you are in a flat above a shop on the main road, tell us so the carry down can be planned.
To the east, Myra Shay is a landscaped sports ground opened in 2006, named after a manor house that once stood there, and Bradford Moor Golf Club has a nine-hole course off Pollard Lane.
How the van gets to Barkerend
The B6381 Barkerend Road runs straight through, from Church Bank near the cathedral out towards Bradford Moor. The A658 New Otley Road and the A647 Leeds Road also cross the area, so the van can come in from the north or the south and pick up Barkerend Road wherever your street leaves it.
