Calverley: what to know before moving day
The A657 runs through the village as Carr Road and Town Gate. Most of the older houses are sandstone, darkened by soot, with brick buildings to the south of the original village; the streets off Town Gate, such as Thornhill Street, Clarke Street and Rushton Street, are close-packed. Calverley Old Hall, a Grade I listed manor house whose oldest part dates from the 14th century, stands just south of Town Gate and is being restored by the Landmark Trust.
St Wilfrid's, the parish church, has parts from the 11th or 12th century, and the Methodist church of 1872 stands beside Victoria Park, where Calverley St Wilfrid's Cricket Club plays; both churches are Grade II listed. There are two golf courses to the south, Woodhall Hills off Woodhall Road and Calverley Golf Club off Woodhall Lane. For a stone terrace, a photo of the front step and the width of the hall saves guesswork.
How the van gets to Calverley
From Bradford the van heads out on the A658 through Eccleshill to Greengates, then turns east on the A657 into Calverley, roughly 15 to 25 minutes. The A657 carries on to Rodley and Bramley. Calverley Cutting, the straight road cut through the rock towards Apperley Bridge in the 1850s, is steep, so the van may take the longer way round with a heavy load.

Yes, for a time: Calverley Urban District joined the Municipal Borough of Pudsey in 1937. Since 1974 it has been in the City of Leeds, in Calverley and Farsley ward, and it has no parish council of its own. Bins and council tax go through Leeds City Council.
Where was Calverley and Rodley station?
On the old Leeds and Bradford Railway, named for Calverley and its neighbour Rodley. It opened in 1846, closed to passengers in 1965 and to freight in 1968.
