Calder Grove: what to know before moving day
The village lies on the valley floor. The Calder and Hebble Navigation, the River Calder and the Hallam Line railway all pass within a few hundred metres of Denby Dale Road, and the Crigglestone Viaduct, dated 1905 on OpenStreetMap, spans the valley here. Coal staithes on the navigation at Calder Grove once took coal brought down a mineral line from Caphouse Colliery through Netherton. The Navigation pub is by the water, and the post office and Calder Grove Cricket Club are near the main road.
Most homes are off Hollin Lane and Denby Dale Road West, on roads such as Hollin Drive, Howard Crescent, Kirkdale Drive, Winden Close, Rockwood Crescent and Sandpiper Road. The Horbury Junction industrial estate is across the river, and the Cedar Court hotel and office park are by the motorway at Durkar. If your house faces Denby Dale Road, point out any lay-by or side street nearby where a long van could stop.
How the van gets to Calder Grove
Calder Grove sits right by the motorway. From Bradford, the M606 meets the M62 at junction 26, the M62 meets the M1 at junction 29, and junction 39 at Durkar puts you on the A636, which runs west into the village as Denby Dale Road. Hollin Lane and Blacker Lane leave the A636 and climb south to Crigglestone.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 30 to 45 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
