Market days on Tuesday and Friday change the whole plan
The market runs all day Tuesday, half eight until four, and again on Friday until five, with close to forty permanent traders taking the Market Place. For a town-centre delivery that means a Wednesday or Thursday slot, or an early start before the stalls go up. It is worth saying plainly, because it is the one fact that decides whether a drop here takes ten minutes or the best part of an hour.
The trade addresses sit away from all that and are far simpler. Sandbeds Trading Estate and Silkwood Park are on the edge of town, Ashley Industrial Estate and the Longlands area are down at Flushdyke on Wakefield Road, and Healey is still a working mill district with Ings Mill, Burmatex making carpet tiles and Ossett Brewery. Those Healey and Flushdyke lanes drop into the Calder valley and carry mill lorries, so they are narrow but built for vehicles.
What Ossett business deliveries usually involves
- Sandbeds Trading Estate, Silkwood Park and Ashley Industrial Estate all take a LWB van at the unit door
- The market has the Market Place 8.30am to 4pm on Tuesday and 8.30am to 5pm on Friday, so central drops move to another day or an early start
- Free parking around the Market Place and Ventnor Way makes the rest of the week straightforward for a long van
- Storrs Hill Road up to South Ossett is a steep, narrow climb, so a loaded van takes the longer way round rather than risk it
- Healey and Flushdyke mill lanes still carry lorry traffic serving the working mills, so we time arrivals rather than meet one head-on

Frequently asked questions: business deliveries in Ossett
Can you deliver to a Market Place shop on a market day?
Not to the kerb outside. Tuesday 8.30am to 4pm and Friday 8.30am to 5pm the stalls have that space. We either come in before they go up, come back once they are down, or park nearby and trolley the stock in. Wednesday and Thursday are the easy days here.
Can you deliver to Sandbeds Trading Estate or Silkwood Park?
Yes, both. They are proper estates with room to turn a Transit Long Wheelbase and get to the loading door, so nothing needs a long carry. Send the unit number and the goods-in window when you book and we will arrive inside it and confirm with a photo or signature.
How big a delivery can you take?
One Transit Long Wheelbase, 3.4m by 1.3m by 1.7m of load space, hand-loaded by the driver and a second pair of hands. That runs from a single box to a full van-load of stock, furniture or display kit. Anything measured in pallets needs a haulier, and we will say so rather than waste your time.
