Market days, Storrs Hill and the run down the M1
Two days a week the Market Place is not available to you. Close to forty permanent traders set up all day Tuesday and Friday, which takes out the obvious kerb space in front of the Town Hall and most of what surrounds it. For a central terrace that means a Wednesday or Thursday slot, or an early start before the stalls go up. Everywhere else in town the parking is unusually kind to a long van.
The other local detail is the hill. South Ossett sits above the town and Storrs Hill Road is a steep, narrow climb a loaded LWB would rather not take, so we go the longer way round and lose nothing by it. That matters because South Ossett is where the newer estates are, and where a lot of the rooms we empty in September happen to be - drives at the door and a straight run to the tailgate, once you have got up there sensibly.

- Stone terraces around Gawthorpe and Dale Street have no off-street parking and tight right-angle junctions between the rows

- The M62 at J28 Tingley and the M1 at J40 are both close, which keeps a Leeds, Sheffield or Midlands run inside a single day

Is there a university in Ossett?
No. Ossett Academy and Sixth Form College sits on the old grammar school site and covers post-16, but there is no campus and no halls. Students travel out to Wakefield, Dewsbury, Huddersfield and Leeds, so what we do here is the September run out and the June run back.
Which day is best for a town-centre move?
Not Tuesday or Friday. The market runs all day on both and takes the Market Place with it. Wednesday and Thursday are straightforward, and any day works if we start early enough to load before the stalls are up. Out on the South Ossett estates the market makes no difference at all.
Can you take a room's worth to Leeds and be back the same day?
Easily. It is a short run on the M62 from Tingley, so we load in the morning, unload at the other end and are back before the afternoon traffic builds. If two of you are going to the same part of Leeds, put it on one booking and split the bill between you.
