Divided mill terraces, free kerb space and two market days
Parking here is unusually kind to a van. Free spaces are the norm around the Market Place and on Ventnor Way, with more free and paid bays close by, which for a flat move is worth a great deal: the van can hold a spot while we work rather than shuttling from somewhere three streets away. The catch is Tuesday and Friday, when the market and its traders take the central spaces and the kerb in front of the Town Hall with them.
The stone terraces running off the Market Place, Dale Street and Church Street have no off-street parking at all and tight right-angle junctions between the rows. Where those have been split into an upstairs and a downstairs flat, you get one shared staircase, a narrow landing and a front door onto the pavement. Around Gawthorpe the old colliery rows are the same shape, so the approach is the same: front door, one flight, careful sequence.
What Ossett flat & apartment removals usually involves
- Ossett Market fills the Market Place all day Tuesday and Friday with close to forty permanent traders, removing the kerb space in front of the Town Hall, so a midweek slot or an early start is far easier with a long load
- Free parking around the Market Place and on Ventnor Way means the van can usually hold its spot for the whole job, which shortens the carry more than any kit does
- Storrs Hill Road up to South Ossett is a steep narrow climb, and a fully loaded long wheelbase van wants the longer way round rather than the direct one
- Terraces around Gawthorpe, Dale Street and Church Street have no off-street parking and tight right-angle junctions, so we walk the last section before committing the van
- Healey and Flushdyke drop into the Calder valley on narrow mill lanes still used by lorries serving the working mills, so timing a job off those roads matters

Common Ossett runs
- Ossett → BradfordM62 westbound from J28 Tingley then the M606, about half an hour without market traffic
- A Market Place flat → South Ossettthe standard trade-up into the newer estates, one load and one steep climb
- Ossett → Wakefield or Dewsburyshort local runs we do regularly, often part loads
What it costs
An Ossett flat move is priced on the staircase, the load and how close the van can park, with market days affecting the time rather than the rate. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Ossett from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: flat & apartment removals in Ossett
Should I avoid Tuesday and Friday?
For a flat on or near the Market Place, yes. The market runs all day on both and takes the central spaces with it, which turns a short carry into a long one. Wednesday and Thursday are noticeably easier, and if it has to be a market day we will start before the stalls go up.
Is parking really free for the van?
Around the Market Place and on Ventnor Way it generally is, which is unusual and genuinely useful. It means the van can hold one spot for the whole job instead of shuttling. We still check on the day, and on the terraced streets off Dale Street and Church Street there is nothing off-street at all.
Can you get up to South Ossett with a full load?
Yes, though we take the longer route rather than Storrs Hill Road. It is a steep narrow climb and a loaded long wheelbase van is slow and heavy on it. That adds a few minutes to the drive and nothing to the price, which is fixed before we start.
