Student Removals in Dewsbury

Student moves in Dewsbury are family-home-to-halls, not house-share-to-house-share. There's no university here, Kirklees College runs its Dewsbury Centre in town, and undergraduates travel out to Huddersfield, Leeds and Bradford, so what we load is a bedroom out of a terrace once a year and back the following June.

A kerbside carry, and a market day to work round

The through-terraces at Savile Town, Ravensthorpe and Thornhill Lees have no drives, no rear vehicle access and cars on both kerbs, which makes every load a kerbside carry from the front door. That's fine, it's what we do, but it changes how long the job takes and where the van has to stand, and it's the reason we ask for the street name rather than just the postcode when you book.

Dates matter here more than in most places. Wednesday and Saturday are market days with a flea market on Friday, and all three fill Market Place, Northgate and Corporation Street from early morning. Up at Thornhill and Earlsheaton the climbs are walled and narrow, Overthorpe and Thornhill High Street especially, so a mid-September Saturday is the worst possible combination and a weekday start is a far better one.

What Dewsbury student removals usually involves

  • Wednesday and Saturday markets plus the Friday flea market clog Market Place, Northgate and Corporation Street from early morning
  • Savile Town, Ravensthorpe and Thornhill Lees terraces have no drives and no rear access, so it's a kerbside carry every time
  • The Whitehall Way ring road and the Corporation Street and Crackenedge Lane one-way system mean a missed turn costs a full lap
  • Thornhill and Earlsheaton climbs are walled and narrow, which is slow going in a loaded long-wheelbase van
  • A single room is a normal booking, so you don't need a houseful to be worth a van

Where in Dewsbury we work

  • Savile Towndense through-terraces where the front door and the kerb are the whole loading plan
  • Ravensthorpe and Thornhill Leesno off-street parking at all, so we work from the nearest usable kerbside space
  • Eastborough and Scout Hilllarger early-20th-century semis with a bit more room to load
  • Kirklees College Dewsbury Centrefurther education in the town centre, which is why undergraduates travel out instead
  • Dewsbury Railway Stationthirteen minutes to Leeds, so the van only carries what the train can't
  • Mill Street East conversionsconverted mill flats near the centre, with the loading point arranged before we arrive

If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Dewsbury and the surrounding WF12-WF13 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.

Common Dewsbury runs

  • Dewsbury → Bradfordten miles up the A652 through Birstall and Drighlington, twenty-five to thirty-five minutes
  • Savile Town → a Huddersfield hallthe September move-in run, timed to the slot the university gives you
  • A university city → back to Dewsbury in Juneend-of-tenancy collection, with a storage drop if the room at home is spoken for

What it costs

Price on a Dewsbury student move follows the load and the carry plus the distance at the far end, and it's fixed before the day. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Dewsbury from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.

Frequently asked questions: student removals in Dewsbury

Is there a university in Dewsbury?

No. Kirklees College runs its Dewsbury Centre in the town centre, and sixth-formers go to Heckmondwike Grammar, Batley or Huddersfield. Degree students travel out to the University of Huddersfield, Leeds or Bradford, so the moves we do here are out of the family home and back again.

Can you load on a market day?

We can, but it's harder and slower. The Wednesday and Saturday markets and the Friday flea market fill the short-stay parking inside the ring road from early on, and the traders' vans take what's left. If your address is near Market Place or Northgate, pick another day or let us start early.

Where will the van stand on a Savile Town street?

As close to your door as the parked cars allow, which on those streets usually means holding a lane while we work. There's no rear access and no driveways, so everything comes out of the front. Two of us loading keeps it short, and we'd rather be quick than sit there blocking the road.
