Lingards Wood: what to know before moving day

The oldest house is Slaithwaite Hall on Bents Lane, which, despite its name, is in Lingards Wood: its cruck-framed core goes back to the mid 15th century. Nearby are the old Lingards Mission Church of 1851, built as a school, and Lingards Cross Farm. In the valley the River Colne, the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and the Huddersfield railway line all pass close by, with a listed canal milestone of the 1790s marked 6 miles. School Lane, Kettle Lane, Crow Trees Road and White Hill are the local lanes, so give the lane and the row name when you book.
How the van gets to Lingards Wood
The A62 Manchester Road passes through Lingards Wood between Slaithwaite and Marsden, and a listed cast-iron milepost for the old Wakefield and Austerlands road stands beside it. From Bradford the van comes through Huddersfield and up the Colne Valley on the A62, then turns off on to the lane for your address. The B6107 Meltham Road is the way across from the Meltham side.
