Moving in Shaw Fields: what to know first
Shawfields Lane is the only surfaced way to the houses, and at about 2 metres wide a long van may not get all the way down it. The usual plan is to stop where the lane leaves Holme Lane or White Hill and carry the short distance to the door, with loading and unloading included either way. Send a photo of the lane outside your door and of the junction you use, and the stop is agreed before the day.
Because the terrace was built into the slope, the ground floors sit back into the hill and there can be a change of level between the lane and the door you use. With a house of that age, measure the stair and the doorways before booking a large sofa or wardrobe, and tell us how many steps there are. Old Lane and Row Lane nearby are a gravel path and a farm track, not ways in for the van.
Shaw Fields: the local picture
Three houses here are listed. Number 5 is a late 18th-century house and barn in one range, described as part of a field terrace; 6 is the painted end house with a lean-to; and 7, from the late 18th or early 19th century, has stone gutter brackets and a coped gable. All three have ground floors built back to earth, set into the slope behind them. About 170 metres east, Dark Wood Farmhouse and Dark Wood Cottage are listed as well, the cottage also built into the hill.
Shawfields Lane is surfaced but only about 2 metres wide, and Row Lane nearby is a track. Holme Lane, the way in from Slaithwaite, passes the listed houses at Lower Holme on the way. Say which house you are in when you book, and mention it if anything is coming out of a barn or outbuilding.
How the van gets to Shaw Fields
This one is approached from above rather than from the valley road. On the suggested route the van comes off the M62 on to the A640 New Hey Road, crosses by Pole Gate, Moor Side Lane and Heys Lane to Clough House Lane and North Lane, then runs along Holme Lane and into Shawfields Lane, roughly 35 to 50 minutes from Bradford in all.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 35 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Which door should the van use at Shaw Fields?
Usually the one on the downhill side, since the houses are dug into the slope behind. Tell us which door you use day to day and how many steps it has.
