A student seller has a deadline you do not. The tenancy ends, the room has to be empty, and the asking price tends to fall as the date gets closer. That is the bargain and the catch: in the last weeks of June, sellers and buyers all want a van on the same few days. If you spot something in Springwood, Marsh or one of the private blocks near Queensgate, agree the time with the seller and send the listing, and the collection is fitted around their move-out.

Away from campus the question is access. A seller halfway up a hillside terrace at Golcar or Paddock may have steps to the door and a lane with nowhere to turn. At the buyer's end it might be a first-floor flat in town or a Lindley semi with a drive. You pay the seller yourself, either in advance or once the item has been checked against the photos.
