Marketplace Collection in Brighouse

Brighouse is the easiest collection in Calderdale, because the middle of it is actually flat. No hauling a sofa down a valley side, no hill start with a loaded van. What it does have is a handful of bridges that everything has to cross, which is the thing worth planning around.

Flat ground, and the bridges that decide the route

The valley-floor core around Birds Royd and Bradford Road is Victorian stone terrace and converted mill apartments, and on the level, which makes loading a corner sofa or a fridge far less dramatic than it would be five miles up the road. The ground rises sharply either side though: south into Rastrick, where the pull up from the valley floor via Bridge End and Rastrick Common is a hard start with weight on, and north into Hove Edge.

Everything else funnels over the Calder and the Calder and Hebble Navigation, and there are only so many crossings. If the bridges at the Basin or Anchor Bridge are blocked there's no quick way round, and J25 at Cooper Bridge backs up onto the A644 at peak, so we pad morning and late-afternoon slots rather than promise a time we'd miss. It's eight miles from Bradford, so a mid-morning or mid-afternoon collection usually runs clean.

What Brighouse marketplace & ebay collection usually involves

  • A641 straight south from Bradford through Odsal, Wyke and Bailiff Bridge, eight miles and fifteen to twenty-five minutes
  • The shopping core around Briggate, Bethel Street and Commercial Street is narrow, partly one-way and has delivery time windows
  • Terraced streets around Birds Royd, Thornhill Briggs and Bradford Road have no driveways and parking both sides, so the van holds a lane while we load
  • We avoid booking tight slots either side of the peak because the M62 J25 approach at Cooper Bridge queues onto the A644
  • Council car parks near the centre and the Basin are pay-and-display, so we work off a loading position rather than parking up and walking

Where in Brighouse we work

  • Birds Roydflat valley-floor terraces and industrial frontage, the straightforward collections
  • Brighouse Basincanalside mill conversions, where a lift or a loading route needs sorting with the seller
  • Rastrickup the climb from Bridge End, 1930s and post-war semis with drives once you're up there
  • Hove Edge and Lightcliffelarger detached stone houses and modern cul-de-sacs, easy parking and better listings
  • Hipperholmeon the A644/A58 side, convenient when the delivery run continues towards Halifax or Bradford
  • Armytage Road Industrial Estateunit and trade listings right by J25, quick in and straight back out

If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Brighouse and the surrounding HD6 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.

What it costs

Brighouse collections are priced on the whole journey and the time at each end, which is why the flat valley-floor addresses tend to come out cheapest. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Brighouse from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.

Frequently asked questions: marketplace & ebay collection in Brighouse

How quickly can you get to a Brighouse seller from Bradford?

It's eight miles down the A641, so fifteen to twenty-five minutes outside peak. That makes same-day collections realistic here more often than anywhere else in Calderdale, as long as the seller can be in and you've agreed the purchase with them.

The seller lives up in Rastrick. Does the hill change anything?

Only the approach. We come up via Bridge End or Rastrick Common and park on the level where we can, rather than starting a loaded van on the steepest part. Most Rastrick addresses have a drive or a decent kerb, so the carry is usually shorter than down in the valley.

Can you collect here and deliver in Huddersfield or Halifax?

Yes, and it's a common run. Brighouse sits between both, fifteen minutes from Huddersfield on the train line and a short hop over to Halifax. Collection in one town and delivery in another is priced as a single job on the total distance.
