Loading here is easier than almost anywhere else in Calderdale, because the core of the town is genuinely flat valley floor. Birds Royd and Bradford Road terraces have no driveways and on-street parking on both sides, so the van blocks a lane briefly while we work, but at least it isn't doing that on a steep hill. Rastrick and Hove Edge are the exception, and the pull up Bridge End is a hard start on a loaded van.
Timing matters more than distance. Everything in and out of the centre crosses the Calder or the Calder and Hebble Navigation at a handful of points, and M62 Junction 25 at Cooper Bridge backs up onto the A644 at peak, so a mid-morning or evening slot beats fighting it at half eight.
