A flat centre, a hard climb to Rastrick, and bridges either way
Terraces around Birds Royd and Bradford Road sit on level ground with the door more or less at van height, so a two-bed move here often goes faster than the same house would in Halifax or Huddersfield. The trade-off is parking. Those streets have no driveways and cars on both sides, so the van generally holds a lane while we load, which is fine as long as we are organised about the order things come out in.
South of the river it changes completely. The pull up to Rastrick by Bridge End and Rastrick Common is a hard start on a loaded long wheelbase van, and Hove Edge climbs the other way. Everything crossing between them goes over a few bridges at the Basin and Anchor Bridge, and if one is blocked there is no quick way round. We check that before setting off rather than joining the queue with your sofa in the back.
