House Removals in Mirfield

Mirfield is the flat one, and that only helps until you need to cross the town. The river and the Calder and Hebble squeeze everything through a handful of crossings, Ledgard Bridge, Newgate and the Battyeford canal bridges, so a move from one side to the other is a routing exercise, not a five-minute hop.

Ledgard Bridge, the level crossings and the move up the hill

A loaded long wheelbase van has fewer options here than a car does. The rail corridor on the Huddersfield to Leeds line brings bridges and the level crossings around Northorpe into the picture, and between those and the canal there are only so many ways to get from the north of the town to the south. We work the route out with you when you book, because the difference between the right crossing and the wrong one is a long detour with a full load on board.

A lot of the work here is short and local: off the valley floor and up to Battyeford, Upper Hopton or Roe Head. The reason is usually the water. The Calder reached 5.4 metres at Ledgard Bridge in Storm Ciara and put Calder View, Back Station Road and Newgate under, and people with the budget move up. Those hillside houses have driveways, so the unloading end is simple. The loading end, on a terrace with no off-street parking, is where the hours go.

What Mirfield house removals usually involves

  • Valley-floor terraces around Newgate, Station Road and Easthorpe have no off-street parking and are squeezed further by all-day commuter parking spilling out of Mirfield station
  • For a tight town-centre address a bay suspension can be arranged with Kirklees Council, and for a full house move it is worth doing
  • Low-lying addresses get a weather check before the day, because the valley floor here has flooded within living memory and a wet week changes the plan
  • Upper Hopton and Roe Head are reached by steep narrow lanes straight off the valley floor, but nearly every house up there has a drive to load from
  • The A644 Huddersfield Road towards M62 junction 25 queues at peak times, so the Bradford run is timed around it

Where in Mirfield we work

  • Newgate and Station Roadvalley-floor terraces, on-street only and full of station commuters by mid-morning
  • Battyefordhillside houses with driveways, the easy end of a Mirfield move
  • Upper Hoptona steep climb off the valley floor, but drive-up loading once you are there
  • Northorpeinterwar and post-war semis where the level crossings shape the route in and out
  • Ledgard Bridgethe crossing almost every cross-town move depends on
  • Shepley Bridgecanalside addresses on the Calder and Hebble with narrow approaches

If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Mirfield and the surrounding WF14 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.

Common Mirfield runs

  • Bradford → Mirfieldtwelve miles, M606 onto the M62 and off at junction 25 for the A644, nearly all motorway and dual carriageway
  • Mirfield terrace → Hopton or Battyefordthe up-the-hill move: a short distance and a long loading end
  • Mirfield → Huddersfield or Dewsburyfive miles or so, regular same-day work

What it costs

Mirfield prices turn on whether the van can stand on a driveway or has to shuttle from the nearest kerb, not on the short run down the M62. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Mirfield from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.

Frequently asked questions: house removals in Mirfield

Can you get a van to a terrace on Newgate?

We can get to it, but standing there is the issue. Those valley-floor streets are on-street only and taken by all-day station parking, so for a full house move we'd suggest a bay suspension through Kirklees Council, or an early start before the commuters fill the road.

Does it matter which side of the canal I'm moving to?

It matters more than the distance does. The town is pinched between the Calder and the navigation, so a cross-town move funnels over Ledgard Bridge, Newgate or the Battyeford bridges. Give us both addresses when you book and we'll pick the crossing and the time of day to use it.

Is Mirfield inside your no-surcharge area?

Yes. It is about twelve miles from Bradford, M606 onto the M62 and off at junction 25, so it is one of the quicker runs we do. The price is worked out on the load and the time the job takes, exactly as it would be for a move inside Bradford.
