The town splits cleanly in two for this kind of work. The valley-floor terraces around Newgate, Station Road and Easthorpe have no off-street parking and are squeezed further by all-day commuter parking spilling out of the station, so a wide item means a shuttle from the nearest legal stop, or a bay suspension arranged with Kirklees for something big. Up at Battyeford, Northorpe and Upper Hopton there are driveways, and the van gets to the door.

Getting between the two halves is the bit people underestimate. The rail corridor and the level crossings around Northorpe limit which way a van with a 3.4-metre load space can travel north to south, and the climbs up to Upper Hopton and Roe Head come straight off the valley floor, steep and narrow.
