Over the river, over the canal, then Junction 25
The town is pinched between the River Calder and the Calder and Hebble Navigation, and the rail corridor adds its own bridges and the level crossings around Northorpe. A van carrying a 3.4m load cannot pick its way round any of that; it goes over one of a handful of crossings, and the A644 Huddersfield Road towards J25 queues hard at peak times. That is why a national run out of here is loaded at first light rather than after the school traffic.
Past Junction 25 it gets simple: the M62 for Manchester and the west, the M1 south for Birmingham and London, the M6 north for Scotland. The load goes on once at your door and comes off once at the other end, in the same van, with a delivery time agreed to the hour. Nothing is tipped into a depot or split across lorries. Most of these moves are a job relocation, or a family following work out of the commuter belt altogether.
What Mirfield long distance & nationwide usually involves
- Valley-floor terraces around Newgate, Station Road and Easthorpe have no off-street parking and are squeezed by all-day station commuters, so a long-run collection there starts before the kerb fills
- Hillside addresses at Upper Hopton, Battyeford and Roe Head mostly have driveways and load quickly, but the lanes climbing off the valley floor are steep and narrow with a full van on
- Flooding is a live risk on the low ground: the Calder hit 5.4m at Ledgard Bridge in Storm Ciara and put Calder View, Back Station Road and Newgate under water, so a winter date down there gets a weather check and a plan B
- Load space is 3.4m by 1.3m by 1.7m, which covers a flat or a small house comfortably but will not take a four-bedroom house with a full garage in one trip
- Bigger loads are quoted from photos and a room-by-room list, because the middle of a two-hundred-mile day is the worst possible moment to find that out
Where in Mirfield we work
- Newgate and Station Roadvalley-floor terraces with no off-street parking, loaded early before commuter cars take the kerb
- Battyeforda canal bridge first, then driveways, so a straightforward load once the van is across
- Upper Hopton and Roe Headlarge detached houses up steep lanes, and the moves most likely to need two trips or an honest edit
- Northorpeinterwar and post-war semis with room to work, though the level crossings decide the route out
- The College of the Resurrection, Stocks Bank Roadresident ordinands arriving and leaving, often from a long way off
- Bankfield Business Park, Huddersfield Roadstock and equipment going to a branch in another part of the country
If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Mirfield and the surrounding WF14 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.
Common Mirfield runs
- Mirfield to Londonover the Calder, up the A644 to M62 J25 and onto the M1, one day from an early start
- Mirfield to BristolM62 west then south down the country, collection first thing and a late arrival
- Bradford to Mirfield, then Scotlandtwelve miles over on the M606 and M62 to load, then north on the M6
What it costs
Distance, the size of the load and whether the van comes back the same day set the price, and at this end a driveway at Hopton and a canal-side terrace at Newgate are not the same job. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Mirfield from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: long distance & nationwide in Mirfield
How far is the motorway from Mirfield?
Junction 25 is about fifteen minutes up the A644, but the honest version is that you cross the Calder and the canal first and the A644 queues at peak times. Load early and that quarter of an hour stays a quarter of an hour, which is worth real money on a long run.
My street has flooded before. Should I worry about a winter move date?
It is worth planning for. The Calder reached 5.4m at Ledgard Bridge in Storm Ciara and put Calder View, Back Station Road and Newgate under water. For a valley-floor address in winter we watch the forecast and agree a fallback date with you rather than gambling on the morning.
Will everything fit in one van for a move to the south coast?
From a terrace or a semi, usually yes. From one of the big detached houses at Hopton or Roe Head, often not. Send photos and a room-by-room list and we will tell you straight whether it is one load, two, or a case for a proper removals firm.
