Over the Calder, onto the M62, and away
Traffic here funnels over a handful of crossings of the River Calder and the Calder and Hebble Navigation, and if the bridges at Brighouse Basin or Anchor Bridge are blocked there is no quick way round. Junction 25 at Cooper Bridge backs up onto the A644 Wakefield Road at peak, so a nationwide collection is booked either early or mid-morning rather than into the rush. Get those two right and this is one of the quickest towns we load in for a long run.
The other local variable is the ground. Rastrick and Hove Edge rise sharply off the valley floor, and the pull up from Bridge End or Rastrick Common is a hard start on a fully loaded van, which is another reason the load gets strapped properly rather than stacked and hoped over. From there it is one vehicle and one driver the whole way, with the destination time agreed before we set off.
What Brighouse long distance & nationwide usually involves
- The Calder and the navigation are crossed on a handful of bridges, so the route to the motorway is checked on the day rather than assumed
- Junction 25 at Cooper Bridge queues back onto the A644 at peak, so collection slots either start early or get padded
- Briggate, Bethel Street and Commercial Street in the shopping core are narrow, partly one-way and have delivery time windows, so central flats are loaded inside them
- Terraces around Birds Royd, Thornhill Briggs and Bradford Road have no driveways and narrow parking both sides, so the van holds a lane while it loads
- Load space is 3.4m by 1.3m by 1.7m; a canalside apartment or a small house fits in one trip, a Lightcliffe detached with a full garage does not and we say so upfront
Where in Brighouse we work
- Brighouse Basincanalside mill apartments, where the bridges decide where the van can legally stand
- Birds RoydVictorian stone terraces on the flat, the quickest loading anywhere in Calderdale for a long run
- Rastricka steep pull up from the valley floor, so the van is loaded with the climb in mind
- Lightcliffe and Hipperholmelarger detached stone houses and modern estates, commonly a two-load job
- Armytage Road Industrial Estatetrade units beside Junction 25, stock and equipment straight onto the motorway
- Clifton and Hove Edge1930s and post-war semis with drives, easy access and an easy start
If your street isn't listed it's almost certainly still covered, Brighouse and the surrounding HD6 postcodes are all inside our normal working area.

What it costs
Price is set by the distance, the size of the load and whether the job is a same-day there-and-back or an overnight, and it is fixed before you book. There's no travel surcharge for coming to Brighouse from Bradford, and you get the price before we set off, not after. See how we quote for the full breakdown.
Frequently asked questions: long distance & nationwide in Brighouse
How close is the motorway, really?
Very. Junction 25 is on the edge of town beside Armytage Road and Junction 26 is a short run up the A58, which makes Brighouse one of the fastest starts we get for a nationwide job. The main thing to watch is the Cooper Bridge queue at peak, so we time around it.
Can you collect from a canalside apartment at the Basin?
Yes. The bridges are the limiting factor rather than the building, so we work out where the van can legally stand and how far the barrow run is beforehand. Tell us the block and the floor when you enquire, and whether there is a lift or a stairwell.
Is there a limit on how far you will go?
Anywhere in mainland Britain. Manchester and the North West are routine from here, London and Scotland are a long single day or an overnight, and the South West usually means collecting in the afternoon and delivering the following morning so nothing is unloaded at midnight.
