Slaithwaite: what to know before moving day
Carr Lane is the shopping street, with independent shops, cafes, the Co-op and the post office; the library is at the Cross Street end, and New Street has a public car park. The canal runs right through the centre. It was filled in during 1956 and dug out again for the reopening of the whole Huddersfield Narrow Canal in 2001, and the small humpback bridge over it is known as Tim Brig. Colne Valley Leisure Centre and Slaithwaite Civic Hall, from 1884, are close by.
The station sits between the centre and the Hill Top residential area and has trains to Huddersfield and Manchester. Streets such as Crimble Bank, Royd Street, Bank Top, Hill Top Road and Clough Road lead away from the centre. Thornton & Ross, the pharmaceutical firm, has its headquarters here, Shaw Pallets is another local employer, and Spa Fields Industrial Estate is right beside the centre.
How the van gets to Slaithwaite
The A62 Manchester Road passes about 300 metres from the centre, on its way from Huddersfield through Linthwaite to Marsden. Britannia Road and Carr Lane are the main streets in, and Varley Road (B6109) is the other main road. From Bradford the van reaches Huddersfield on the M62 and follows the A62 west.
