Marsden: what to know before moving day
Moorland surrounds Marsden on three sides, much of it the National Trust's Marsden Moor Estate, and the only low-level way in is from the east along the valley. The centre is on the A62 Manchester Road, with Towngate, Market Place, Peel Street, Church Lane, Argyle Street, Brougham Road and Victoria Street around it. St Bartholomew's church, the library, the Mechanics Hall and the Co-op are all within a few minutes' walk.
Woollen cloth built Marsden. Bank Bottom Mill, later Marsden Mill, covered 14 acres in the 1930s and stopped making cloth in 2003. Fall Lane and Weirside are close to the centre, Mount Road leads up to the Hemplow sports ground and Meltham Road heads over towards Meltham. Half a mile west of the centre, the railway and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal enter the Standedge Tunnels. If your home is up one of the hillside roads, send the street and a photo of the approach.
How the van gets to Marsden
The A62 Manchester Road is the way in. It comes up the Colne Valley from Huddersfield through Linthwaite and Slaithwaite, runs through Marsden and passes the Standedge cutting about 2.5 miles west on its way to Oldham. From Bradford the van comes through Huddersfield and out along the A62. The B6107 Meltham Road is the cross-country road to Meltham.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 40 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.

Is Marsden in Kirklees or across the border in Greater Manchester?
Kirklees. Marsden is the last significant settlement on the West Yorkshire side before the Standedge crossing, in the Colne Valley West ward. It has no parish council of its own: it is in the unparished part of Kirklees.
Are there festival days to plan a Marsden move around?
Cuckoo Day, with a procession and clog dancing, is held each spring in April, and the Marsden Jazz Festival every October. If your moving date falls on one of them, mention it when you book so the loading can be planned round the events.
