Holt Head: what to know before moving day
In this part of the Colne Valley most listed buildings are stone farmhouses and farm buildings with stone slate roofs, and Holt Head has a good number of them. Jim Hill has two listed pairs of the late 18th century, one of them two houses made into one. Holt Laith has an 18th-century house with its adjoining cottage and a cottage with a barn. Hollins is a house and barn in one range, built into the slope at its west end, and Oak Farmhouse and Bole Bent Farmhouse also keep their barns alongside. The former Holt Head Sunday School of 1840 has been converted into a home.
For a move, that mix matters: in a house joined to a barn or built into the hillside, the usable door may be at the side or the back, so say which door to use and how far it is from the lane. Holt Head Road crosses Bradley Brook on a listed single-arch stone bridge, and Delves Gate is the small group of houses off it.
How the van gets to Holt Head
The B6107 runs through Holt Head as Chain Road and Slaithwaite Road, linking Meltham with Slaithwaite in the Colne Valley, and the B6109 Varley Road joins it here. Holt Head Road is the lane over Bradley Brook. From Bradford the van comes by way of Huddersfield and Meltham, or from the Colne Valley side through Slaithwaite.
The drive from Bradford is roughly 35 to 50 minutes. That is an estimate from route data, not a timed run, and traffic changes it.
