Kirkhamgate: what to know before moving day
The fields round the village belong to the Rhubarb Triangle, the forced-rhubarb area marked out by Wakefield, Morley and Rothwell, and Brandy Carr Nurseries on Brandy Carr Road specialise in rhubarb and liquorice plants. The centre is compact: the war memorial, the Village Stores, the village hall, The Star Inn and Outwood Primary Academy Kirkhamgate are all mapped close to the junction, and Lindale Methodist Church, with the community centre beside it, is on Brandy Carr Road.
The western end of the village is on rising ground. From there Brandy Carr Road drops east over the Alverthorpe Beck at Beck Bottom and runs past fields and housing towards the A650. Homes are on roads such as Greenlay Drive, Kirkham Avenue, Lindale Lane, Lindale Garth, Westfield Crescent, Pippins Green Avenue and Blossom Chase. The annual scarecrow festival takes place in September.
How the van gets to Kirkhamgate
The A650 makes this a straightforward run: it leaves Bradford heading south-east through Dudley Hill and Tong Street, passes Morley and meets the M62 at Tingley, then continues through East Ardsley and Carr Gate towards Wakefield. Brandy Carr Road leaves it and runs west into Kirkhamgate. By motorway, the M1 is reached at junction 41, and Batley Road leads west from the village.
