Wrenthorpe: what to know before moving day
Pottery was made here from the 15th century and peaked in the 17th, when the kilns gave the village the name Potovens; Potovens Lane keeps it. Coal mining, rope-making, woollen textiles and rhubarb forcing followed. Today Wrenthorpe Road, Wrenthorpe Lane and Jerry Clay Lane are the main village streets, with Bunkers Hill, Rodger Lane, Towlerton Lane, Sunny Hill and estate roads such as Valley Drive, Danella Crescent and Furness Avenue.
Schools are the easiest landmarks: Wrenthorpe Academy and Jerry Clay Academy are the state primaries, Hall Cliffe Primary School is on the old Sunny Hill House School site, and Silcoates School, founded in 1820, sits on the border with Alverthorpe. Wrenthorpe Park has tennis courts, a bowling green and car parking, the recreation ground is on Wrenthorpe Lane, and the cricket club plays in the Bradford Premier League. The New Pot Oil and The New Wheel are two of its pubs.
How the van gets to Wrenthorpe
Wrenthorpe is close to junction 41 of the M1, where the A650 from Bradford crosses the motorway. From there, Bradford Road, Wrenthorpe Road and Jerry Clay Lane are the roads to give the driver, and Potovens Lane carries on across to Outwood.
