Lofthouse: what to know before moving day
The A61 runs through the village as Leeds Road, and the old co-operative building, just off it on Co-operative Street, is now a beauty salon. Christ Church, Lofthouse Methodist Church, the doctor's surgery and the Rodillian Academy (with Lofthouse Children's Centre in its grounds) are the landmarks most drivers can find. On the map, many of the estate roads end in -gate: Westgate Lane, Ramsgate, Fentonsgate, Robertsgate and Meadowgate Drive, so check the spelling on your booking.
Green Lane, Jumbles Lane and Ouzlewell Green carry the B6135 across the village, and the small hamlet of Ouzlewell Green and the neighbourhood of Langley sit on the edge of the village. Towards Wakefield, Lofthouse Gate and Outwood are separate villages in the Wakefield district; towards Leeds the next village is Robin Hood. The name comes from the Old Norse for a house with a loft, and the village was a township in the old parish of Rothwell.
How the van gets to Lofthouse
From Bradford the van takes the M62 east to junction 29, the Lofthouse interchange with the M1 (junction 42), and comes straight off onto the A61 for the village. Carlton Lane leads north-east to Carlton, and the B6135 (Long Thorpe Lane) runs west towards Thorpe on the Hill.
